Woman Killed, 3 Injured in Collision with Wrong-way Driver
OLIVEHURST, Calif. (Sept. 3, 2024) — Francisca Monzono, 47, of Elverta, died and three others were injured Monday in Olivehurst on Highway 70 and the McGowan Parkway off ramp in Yuba County.
The deadly collision occurred at 5:29 a.m. on Labor Day, Sept. 2nd, according to the California Highway Patrol and KCRA 3 News.
An alleged wrong-way driver in a white Buick crashed head-on with a Toyota SUV after entering the freeway in the wrong direction from the off ramp.
The woman driving the Toyota died and her passenger suffered major injuries and was hospitalized.
Meanwhile, the suspect driving the Buick, Alannah Eastern, was airlifted to a trauma center with major injuries. Also, a passenger from the same vehicle was also taken to a hospital with major injuries.
Police determined that Alannah Eastern was allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol and arrested the motorist on charges of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and felony DUI causing injury, the CHP said.
Finally, the Yuba County Sheriff’s Department later identified the woman who died as Francisca Monzono of Elverta.
