MALIBU, Calif. (May 25, 2018) – A pedestrian was struck and killed today in a car accident on Pacific Coast Highway, just south of Topanga Beach and Mastro’s Ocean Club restaurant, according to ABC News.
The victim was later identified as Francisco Antonio Mundo Hernandez, 21, of North Hills.
The collision took place on the ocean side of the highway about 5 a.m. this morning in the 182oo block of PCH, police said. Although it would have been dark at the time, there are plenty of traffic lights in the location of the incident.
The driver of a silver car who struck the victim, pulled over and stopped. The car had damage on its right front hood consistent with hitting a person. The CHP is heading up an investigation into the incident.
Malibu Accident Investigation
Police are investigating this collision to determine fault. At this time, we do not know if the pedestrian was crossing PCH or if they were walking or jogging along the side of the roadway. There may have been fault among both parties. Some of the questions police may have include whether or not the driver in the vehicle was reckless, distracted or disobeying any traffic rules of the road.
As we head into the busy Memorial Day weekend, our roadways are becoming extremely dangerous for both pedestrians and drivers. Our sincere condolences go out to the family of this person as they cope with news of this tragedy.
