Brian Ortiz Jr., 19, Arrested on DUI Charges
TEMECULA, CA (August 9, 2024) — Francisco Torres, 52, of San Jacinto, has died and another driver faces DUI charges after a two-vehicle crash Tuesday morning on the Interstate 15 Freeway in Temecula.
The fatal collision occurred at 6:18 a.m. on August 6th, near the state Route 79/Temecula Parkway off ramp, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Brian David Ortiz Jr., 19, of Temecula, was reportedly traveling northbound in a Toyota Camry sedan when he told police he saw a block of wood in the roadway.
The Temecula man reportedly swerved to avoid hitting the piece of wood and instead rear-ended a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck driven by Francisco Torres.
Upon impact, the pickup truck spun out and overturned in the center median of the freeway.
Unfortunately, Francisco Torres was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from his truck onto the No. 2 lane of the southbound side of the freeway.
Sadly, the San Jacinto man died at the scene of the crash.
Meanwhile, police arrested the other driver identified as Brian Ortiz on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, DUI causing great bodily injury, and DUI with injury.
He was booked at the Southwest Detention Center in lieu of $75,000 bail.
The investigation is headed up by the CHP’s Temecula Area office.
