Pickup Crashes Undernearth Back of Semi-Truck
COACHELLA, California (Oct. 5, 2017) – Frank Mendez, 23, of Indio has been identified as the driver of a heavy-duty Ford F-350 pickup truck that was killed early Thursday morning when his vehicle crashed underneath the back of a semi-tractor trailer truck on the westbound Interstate 10 Freeway, just east of Dillon Road, a California Highway Patrol report said.
The crash took place about 5:07 a.m. this morning near Mile Marker 63. The female truck driver called 911 to report that a driver in some sort of service truck crashed into the back of her big rig and was stuck underneath.
The victim died of their injuries at the scene of the crash.
There were no further details provided, but the crash is under investigation by police to determine liability.
Fatal Coachella Crash Investigation
Indeed, there are certainly many unanswered questions surrounding what led to this collision. Was one of the drivers following too closely or speeding, did the truck driver cut off the pickup truck, were there distractions or alcohol involved or did mechanical problems contribute to this collision? There may have also been a defective rear under-ride guard on the back of the semi-tractor trailer truck that could have contributed to this man’s death.
The family members of a person who dies in a collision may have grounds for a wrongful death claim to recover financial losses.
