Driver Who Hit Man in Wheelchair Arrested on Manslaughter Charges
CHICO, Calif. (Sept. 5, 2024) — Frankie Moodie, 69, died three weeks after a driver struck him on East 12th Street in Chico back on July 24th while he was crossing the road in his motorized wheelchair.
Now the driver, Jennifer Jackson, 50, of Chico, was arrested and taken to Butte County Jail about a week after he died on Saturday, Aug. 31st, 2024, Action News Now reports. She faces Gross Vehicular Manslaughter charges and her bail was set at $60,000.
The traffic accident occurred on July 24th at East 12th Street and Park Avenue in Chico.
Authorities say the Chico woman allegedly drove through a red light, sideswiped a parked vehicle, and struck the victim in a crosswalk. Investigators are also working to determine if she was using a cell phone at the time of the collision.
Meanwhile, the Chico man, who had a green light, was transported to a hospital, but died three weeks later.
The case remains under investigation.
