Fred Zehnder, 87, Killed in Alameda DUI Crash at Lincoln Avenue and Walnut Street
ALAMEDA, CA (June 28, 2021) – A DUI crash killed pedestrian Fred Zehnder at Lincoln Avenue and Walnut Street in Alameda.
Authorities identified the 87-year-old man as the victim of the fatal collision which occurred on Sunday night. He was a former KTVU news director.
The incident happened when Fred Zehnder was walking at the intersection of Lincoln Avenue and Walnut Street in Alameda. At the same time, a Ford F150 was going east on Lincoln.
Pedestrian Hit by Car in Crosswalk
Police said the pickup truck then hit him in a crosswalk. KTVU News and CBS San Francisco wrote that the accident took place on June 27 at around 10 p.m.
Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived and found the elderly man lying on the ground. Fred Zehnder sustained major injuries as a result of the pedestrian collision.
Medical personnel pronounced him dead at the scene. Meanwhile, the male driver of the Ford stopped and stayed at the site after hitting Zehnder.
Police determined that he was under the influence at the time. They soon arrested him on suspicion of DUI. The DUI crash is still under investigation.
