Freddie Olmeda Killed in Escondido Pedestrian Accident on West 9th Avenue

ESCONDIDO, Calif. (June 8, 2026) — Freddie Olmeda, 31, died after being struck by multiple vehicles including a hit-and-run driver on a street in Escondido on the night of May 29, authorities said.
Emergency personnel responded at approximately 8:32 p.m. to West 9th Avenue east of South Redwood Street after reports of a traffic collision involving a pedestrian, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Olmeda sustained severe injuries in the incident and was transported to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido, where he was pronounced dead at 8:59 p.m., officials said.
The Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as Freddie Olmeda, born Sept. 1, 1994. His city and state of residence were not immediately available.
Authorities said multiple vehicles struck Olmeda under circumstances that remain under investigation. The Escondido Police Department is handling the investigation and has not released additional details regarding what led to the collision.
The Medical Examiner’s Office determined Olmeda died from blunt force injuries. His death was ruled an accident, and no contributing medical conditions were identified.
Officials said Olmeda’s next of kin has been notified.
