1 Killed, 2 Seriously Injured in Fremont Crash at Thornton Avenue and Interstate 880
FREMONT, CA (April 9, 2021) – A crash killed one person and seriously injured two others at Thornton Avenue and the Interstate 880 in Fremont.
According to the East Bay Times and Patch, the tragic accident occurred early Friday. Officers reported the wreck at about 2:32 a.m.
The incident happened when a vehicle was going west on Thornton Avenue. At the same time, a second vehicle was driving north on the Interstate 880 off-ramp.
Witnesses claimed that the vehicle exiting the I-880 had a green light to enter the intersection. In the process, the westbound vehicle struck the other.
Alcohol Factor in Fremont Off-Ramp Collision
Police said the two then collided at Thornton Avenue and the Interstate 880 off-ramp in Fremont. Both vehicles sustained major damage as a result of the collision.
The Fremont resident driving the westbound vehicle, the Newark resident exiting the off-ramp and a passenger suffered major injuries.
Firefighters along with the paramedics responded to the scene and rushed them to local hospitals for treatment. However, the passenger later died.
The names of the deceased and wounded parties have not been yet released. Meanwhile, officials forced the roadway to shut down for a time following the Fremont crash.
