2 Dead in Highway 180 Wrong-way Crash
FRESNO, Calif. (Feb. 5, 2019) — Two men died in a wrong-way crash Monday night on Highway 180.
UPDATE: Phia Vang, 48, a 26-year veteran of the Police Department, identified as driver killed in crash.
The crash took place about 5 p.m. shortly after a driver in a 2014 Chevy Silverado pickup truck turned from DeWolf Avenue onto Highway 180. Cameron Pryor, 33, of Fresno, allegedly entered the freeway driving eastbound in the westbound lanes where he collided with a total of six vehicles, the last he struck head-on.
An off-duty police officer was in that last vehicle and died in the crash along with the Pryor who was identified as the wrong-way driver. People in other vehicles suffered non-life threatening injuries in the collision, but there were no further details.
Police are investigating whether or not alcohol and drugs were factors.
They closed down Highway 180 between DeWolf to Smith Avenue to conduct the investigation and cleanup.
