Fresno Police Car Hits Bicyclist at McKinley and Chestnut
FRESNO, Calif. (Oct. 30, 2024) – A Fresno police vehicle and a person riding a bicycle were involved in a traffic accident Tuesday afternoon at McKinley and Chestnut avenues in Fresno.
The Fresno Police Department reported the crash at 4:41 p.m. on Oct. 29th when the undercover police officer’s vehicle traveling westbound struck the cyclist.
The person riding the bicycle was crossing northbound on McKinley Avenue and against traffic on a red light when the crash occurred.
Meanwhile, the westbound police vehicle from the Fresno Police Department struck the victim at the intersection.
Paramedics responded and transported the injured bicyclist to the hospital, police said. The police vehicle, a grey Toyota van, was driven by an on-duty officers and had a smashed windshield.
Investigators are working on the case, but early indications are that drugs and or alcohol were no likely a factor in the collision.
