Teenage Driver Arrested for Hit-and-run, DUI after Fresno Crash
FRESNO, Calif. (May 13, 2020) — A bicyclist was injured in a collision at Effie Street and Sussex Way early Wednesday by a driver who also crashed into a building in central Fresno.
The collision took place just after 12:30 a.m. after the driver tried to evade police who suspected DUI.
The driver in the Chevy Tahoe SUV led police on a chase, but as the SUV went around the corner at Effie and Sussex its driver hit a parked car and the bicyclist. Next, the driver tried to turn into an apartment complex, but crashed into the wall of an apartment building.
The vehicle made a hole in the wall of the structure.
Police arrested the teenage driver on DUI and hit-and-run charges. It’s unknown if any charges were made against the underage passenger inside the SUV who was also a juvenile.
Meanwhile, the injured bicyclist was transported by ambulance to Community Regional Medical Center with unspecified injuries.
