The accident occurred shortly before 5:30 p.m.
As per the article, CHP said Officer Bean was responding to a separate collision on the left shoulder when he was hit by a red pickup truck. He was left on the eastbound side of the highway, while his motorcycle slammed into the center divider and went over it.
CHP said the 28-year-old officer from Hanford was conscious and responsive when he was transported to Community Regional Medical Center with major injuries. Bean reportedly hit his head during the incident and suffered injuries to his leg.
Meanwhile, the driver of the pickup reportedly turned left from the fast lane of eastbound Highway 180 and into the left shoulder where Officer Bean was struck.
The incident is still under investigation.
