Man Killed, Girl Injured in Fresno County Crash on Highway 99 Near Manning
FRESNO COUNTY, CA (July 7, 2022) – A crash killed a man and injured a child on Highway 99 and Manning Avenue near Fowler in Fresno County.
According to the FOX 26 News and Your Central Valley, the fatal accident took place on Thursday morning. Officers reported the wreck at about 7:30 a.m. near Fowler and Selma.
The incident happened when a commercial truck was traveling in the center lane of northbound Highway 99, south of Manning Avenue, in Fresno County.
At the same time, a Toyota Prius was driving behind in the left lane. For an unknown reason, the big rig pulling a trailer moved into the left lane.
Car and Big Rig Collide
The California Highway Patrol said in the process, the Toyota slammed into the back of the semi-truck. The Prius became pinned between the trailer and a barricade upon impact.
Both vehicles then burst into flames as a result of the collision. The 57-year-old Selma man driving the sedan died at the scene of the incident.
His passenger, a 10-year-old Selma girl, survived with minor to moderate injuries. Paramedics rushed her to a hospital for treatment.
The names of the deceased and wounded victims have not been yet released. Meanwhile, CHP added that the driver of the big rig ended up unharmed following the wreck.
Officers forced the northbound lanes of Highway 99 to shut down for hours near Manning following the wreck. The cause of the Fresno County crash is still under investigation.
