Man, 70, Killed in Fresno County Rollover Crash at Shields and Howard Avenues
FRESNO COUNTY (July 2, 2020) – An alleged hit-and-run crash at Shields and Howard avenues killed an elderly motorist on Thursday evening.
According to reports by The Fresno Bee and Your Central Valley, officers received a call about the fatal accident at around 6:30 p.m. near Kerman.
The incident began when a 70-year-old Fresno man was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Blazer east on Shields Avenue, approaching the intersection of Howard Avenue.
At the same time, a 2001 silver Toyota Corolla was headed south on Howard. For an unknown reason, the Toyota then slammed into the left rear side of the Chevrolet.
Car Accident at Shields and Howard Avenues Near Kerman
The California Highway Patrol said the Blazer rolled over at least three times as a result of the collision. In the process, its driver became ejected from the SUV.
Paramedics responded and pronounced the elderly man dead at the scene. The name of the deceased victim has not been yet released pending notification of next of kin.
Meanwhile, CHP affirmed that the operator of the Corolla did not stop to render aid and fled south on Howard. Authorities determined that the suspect failed to yield the right away to the Chevrolet.
