A forensic examination of the 2014 Peterbilt involved, as well as photos that were taken of the scene, will help investigators determine the liability in the deadly collision. Authorities will thoroughly look into how fast the operator was going, whether or not alcohol or drugs were involved, whether or not there was a mechanical issue with the truck, and whether or not the driver was distracted or did not yield to the right of way motorist. The investigation will also consist of looking at measurements of evidence left by the big rig such as point of impact, its final resting position, skid marks, and gouge marks.
The surviving family of the deceased may possess the right to pursue a wrongful death lawsuit pending the results of the investigation. Family members of wrongful death victims are entitled to a recompense for the funeral costs, lost wages, loss of love and companionship.
