Man, 58, Seriously Injured in Fresno Crash at Maple and Clinton Avenues
FRESNO, CA (December 13, 2022) – One was seriously injured after a DUI crash at Maple and Clinton avenues in Fresno.
According to The Fresno Bee and Your Central Valley, the accident took place early Tuesday. Officers reported the wreck at around 12:40 a.m.
The incident happened when a Dodge Grand Caravan was traveling west on Clinton Avenue at a high rate of speed, approaching Maple Avenue, in Fresno.
At the same time, a Honda Civic was going north on Maple. The Honda was making a turn west on Clinton at a green light when the Dodge ran a red light.
In the process, the Caravan slammed into the Civic in the intersection. The California Highway Patrol said the impact pushed the Honda back around 200 feet.
Speeding Drunk Driver Runs Red Light, Hits Another Car
The 58-year-old Fresno man driving the Civic sustained major injuries as a result of the collision. Paramedics rushed him to the Community Regional Medical Center for treatment.
The reports did not disclose the name of the wounded victim and his condition at this time. Meanwhile, the Dodge continued south and struck a steel fence.
The Caravan plowed into into an apartment complex and then caught fire. Bystanders stopped the speeding driver who self-extricated and tried to leave the scene.
CHP determined that the 22-year-old man driving the Dodge was under the influence of alcohol when he hit the other car. Medical personnel transported him with unknown injuries.
Officers soon arrested him on suspicion of a felony DUI causing injuries. The incident forced the area of Maple and Clinton avenues to shut down for a time.
The Fresno crash is still under investigation.
