Boy, 13, Critically Injured in Fresno Crash at Palm and Pinedale Avenues
FRESNO, CA (January 25, 2021) – A DUI crash critically injured a teenage boy at Palm and Pinedale avenues in Fresno.
The incident began when witnesses saw a man asleep at the wheel of a black SUV at a stoplight near Palm and Herndon avenues.
Other motorists started to honk their horns at the man, who then woke up and drove down Palm Avenue at a high rate of speed. In the process, he struck a curve and lost control of his vehicle.
Police said the driver of the SUV crossed over into the opposite lanes. He ultimately slammed head-on into a white panel van at the intersection of at Palm and Pinedale avenues.
Speeding Drunk Driver Arrested After Head-On Collision
Firefighters along with the paramedics responded to the scene. They found a 13-year-old boy pinned inside the minivan as a result of the collision.
Officials extricated the teen passenger who suffered severe injuries upon impact. Medical personnel rushed him to the hospital in a critical condition.
The reports mentioned that the driver of the van, the father of the young victim, apparently suffered moderate injuries but declined hospitalization.
Meanwhile, police determined that the motorist who caused the crash was under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the accident.
Authorities soon arrested and took him into custody on suspicion of DUI and causing great bodily injury. The incident is still under investigation.
