Man in Wheelchair Suffers Serious Injuries in Fresno After Being Struck by Vehicle
FRESNO (October 23, 2017)- According to the Fresno Bee, a man in a wheelchair suffered serious injuries after being struck by a vehicle Monday evening at the intersection of Gettysburg Avenue and Effie Street.
The collision was documented to have taken place at around 7:00 p.m. when a pickup truck driver hit a man thought to be in his 60s as he crossed Gettysburg Avenue towards Effie.
The unidentified victim suffered serious injuries and was rushed to a trauma center where he was last updated to have been in “stable but critical condition.”
Per the Fresno Bee, the driver of the pickup truck did indeed stop and was cooperative with Fresno police officials following the incident.
Fresno police officer Steve Card, who was present at the scene and was available for an interview with the Bee, disclosed that the designated area where the incident took place has no lights and is very dark making it difficult to see pedestrians and bicyclists who cross the road.

Based on the facts provided by the news report, there are still several unanswered questions here. Was the driver under the influence of alcohol or drugs? Did excessive speed or distracted driving play a role? Was the driver negligent in any other way? Was the victim crossing at an intersection or in a designated crossing area? The police officer confirmed that the intersection has inadequate lighting which is of major concern for the safety of pedestrian, cyclists, and even other drivers. With that being said, there could be liability upon the city of Fresno for failing to protect the safety for all motorists and pedestrians. We trust officials are looking into these and other factors in order to determine precisely what occurred here and why.
In such cases where negligence or wrongdoing may have been a factor, injured victims may pursue a personal injury lawsuit against the parties found at fault or held accountable for an accident. Injured accident victims may seek compensation for damages including medical expenses and hospital bills, lost future income, and pain and suffering.
