The accident took place about 10 a.m.
As per the article, Fresno police said a 46-year-old man was riding a Yamaha V Star cruiser-style motorcycle east on Figarden Drive, approaching Brunswick Avenue, when at the same time a Nissan Versa Note was going west on Figarden.
The 31-year-old woman driving the Nissan apparently believed that a turn lane intended for eastbound traffic was intended for westbound traffic. The woman then drove into the lane, where she nearly collided head-on with the motorcycle.
Police affirmed that the rider was critically hurt and was immediately transported to Saint Agnes Medical Center. He later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
His name has not been yet released pending notification of next of kin.
Meanwhile, the airbags in the car deployed and the female motorist stayed at the scene and reportedly claimed that she was new to the area and unfamiliar with the roadway. The investigation is ongoing.
We are deeply saddened by the news of this tragedy. We offer our prayers and most heartfelt condolences to the friends and family members of the man during such a difficult time.
