2 Injured in Small Plane Crash at Fullerton Municipal Airport
ORANGE COUNTY, Calif. (August 31, 2021) — A Fullerton airport plane crash happened Monday afternoon when the aircraft struck a chain-link fence as its pilot attempted to land.
The pilot and one passenger were aboard the Piper PA-24-400 as it came to rest on its belly on the runway. The collision happened about 1:55 p.m. on Monday afternoon, Aug. 30th, according to the Orange County Register.
Paramedics transported both people to UCI Medical Center with undisclosed injuries. They were conscious at the time they were taken to the hospital, officials said.
The plane likely came in too low as it approached the runway and snagged the perimeter fence that surrounds the airport, airport officials said.
The landing gear came off the single-engine plane when it hit the fence, causing the plane to crash land on the runway. Also, the propeller blades were bent and the front-end of the plane was crushed, the news report said.
Airport officials temporarily closed down the runway for several hours due to the crash.
