Motorcyclist Killed in Crash Involving SUV Making a U-Turn in Fullerton
FULLERTON, Calif. (August 29, 2024) – A motorcycle rider died Wednesday in a collision involving an SUV making a U-turn at Commonwealth Avenue and Basque Avenue in Fullerton.
The deadly crash occurred at 3:11 p.m. on August 28th, according to the Fullerton Police Department and ABC News.
Investigators determined a driver in a grey or white Toyota RAV4 SUV was heading eastbound on West Commonwealth Avenue. The SUV driver attempted to make a U-turn at North Basque Avenue and apparently caused westbound traffic to come to an abrupt stop, police said.
Meanwhile, a man riding a black 2020 Harley Davidson was westbound on Commonwealth Avenue and tried to avoid the stopped traffic and collided with the oncoming eastbound SUV. The bike became lodged under the SUV and caught on fire. The victim was ejected from his motorcycle and paramedics from the Fullerton Fire Department pronounced him dead on scene.
The Orange County Coroner has not released his name.
Investigators questioned the 47-year-old man driving the RAV4, but they did not consider drugs or alcohol were factors in the collision.
Finally, witnesses are asked to call Fullerton Police Traffic Accident Investigator Joshua Manes at 714-738-6815 or email him at [email protected].
