Gardena Man, 56, Killed in Palm Springs Crash on Highway 111
PALM SPRINGS, Calif. (July 5, 2022) — Gabriel Casiano Martinez , 56, of Gardena, died Sunday morning in a crash with a suspected DUI driver on Highway 111 in Palm Springs.
The collision occurred about 1:30 a.m. on July 3rd, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
Palm Springs police reported that a driver identified as Jackson George, 34, of Whitewater, allegedly rear-ended a vehicle occupied by Gabriel Martinez.
Police responded to the collision on Highway 111, just north of Gateway Drive. Authorities believe Jackson George was traveling at a “very high rate of speed” at the time of the collision.
Gabriel Martinez was riding as a passenger in the vehicle driven by a 55-year-old woman. He suffered major injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. Paramedics transported the female driver to a hospital with minor injuries.
Jackson George was also taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
Authorities later arrested Jackson George after they determined he was driving under the influence. He has a previous DUI arrest from out of state.
Finally, investigators continue to work on the case.
