1 Killed, 4 Injured in Sacramento County Crash on Highway 99 Near Dillard
SACRAMENTO COUNTY, CA (August 22, 2021) – A head-on crash killed one person and injured several others on Highway 99 in Sacramento County.
According to The Sacramento Bee and KCRA News, the tragic accident occurred on Sunday morning. Officers reported the wreck at about 4:30 a.m.
The incident began when a Dodge Ram was going south on Highway 99 in Sacramento County. At the same time, a Galt Police Department patrol vehicle was traveling about 70 mph north.
For a unknown reason, the pickup truck crashed through a median concrete barrier and crossed over into the northbound lanes. The Dodge then slammed head-on into the police car.
Galt Police Officers Victims in Head-On Collision
The California Highway Patrol said the two vehicles crashed north of Dillard Road. The driver of the pickup truck died as a result of the collision.
Firefighters arrived at the scene and extricated two Galt police officers, a male and a female, from the wreckage. They suffered major injuries upon impact.
Paramedics rushed the officers to the UC Davis Medical Center for treatment. The two passengers of the Ram, 26-year-old men, ended up hospitalized with moderate injuries.
The names of the deceased and wounded parties have not been yet released. Meanwhile, CHP and police officers forced all lanes of Highway 99 to shut down for hours following the wreck.
The cause of the fatal Sacramento County crash is still under investigation.
