Motorist Killed in Dana Point Car Accident Identified
DANA POINT, Calif. (Nov. 8, 2023) – Gary Parker, who was in his 50s, died in a Dana Point crash involving an alleged DUI driver Sunday night on Coast Highway, just south of Palisades Drive.
The deadly crash occurred at around 8:20 p.m. on Nov. 5th, according to a report by the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
Evan Madison Owen, 43, of Littleton, Colorado, was driving southbound in a 2019 BMW that reportedly collided with a 1999 Plymouth due to unknown circumstances.
Gary Parker was driving the Plymouth and sustained major injuries in the collision. He was transported by Orange County Fire Authority paramedics to a hospital where he later died.
Meanwhile, police investigating the crash determined that the Colorado man was driving under the influence of alcohol and or drugs.
Authorities reported Owen allegedly had a blood-alcohol level of 0.21 — which is more than double the limit.
He was first arrested on suspicion of DUI, but the charges were upgraded to second-degree murder after it was discovered that Owen had knowledge of the dangers of drunk driving due to his experience as a volunteer firefighter in Los Angeles county.
The alleged DUI motorist is scheduled to be arraigned on Nov. 22 in Dept. H1, Harbor Justice Center in Newport Beach.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is heading up the investigation.
