The accident took place about 7 a.m.
As per the article, California Highway Patrol said 24-year-old Chandes M. Goodin was driving a 2001 Ford Ranger east on Gyle Road when at the same time 52-year-old Gary Lee Whitmire was seated in a parked garbage truck on the westbound shoulder.
Goodin, of Proberta, allowed her car to veer into the opposing traffic lane and onto the shoulder. The Ford then collided head-on with the truck.
CHP affirmed that Goodin was extricated from the pickup and was transported to St. Elizabeth Community Hospital where she died.
Meanwhile, Whitmire was taken to St. Elizabeth by private vehicle with minor injuries. The 52-year-old Cottonwood man was preparing to collect garbage at the time.
The incident remains under investigation.
