George Milton Faces Up to 25 Years in Prison for Death of Toddler
COMPTON, Calif. (May 23, 2018) – George Edward Milton Jr., 32, is facing manslaughter charges for the alleged DUI crash Sunday that killed a 2-year-old child in South Los Angeles when his vehicle drove up onto a sidewalk at 92nd and Figueroa streets, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
The Gardena man, who is scheduled to be arraigned today at a Compton courthouse, was reportedly driving under the influence of alcohol when his Chevrolet Tahoe SUV struck the toddler about 5:30 p.m. on May 20. He is charged with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage and driving
with a 0.08 percent blood alcohol content causing injury.
If Milton is convicted as he is being charged, he faces up to 25 years in state prison, according to the District Attorney’s Office. He was previously convicted of arson of property in 2006.
Eidan Cortez, 2, was walking with his mother on the sidewalk when he was critically injured in the collision. He was transported to a hospital where he soon died. Milton attempted to flee the scene after the collision, but was stopped by bystanders and held until police arrived. He was arrested by deputies with the Los Angeles Police Department’s South Traffic Division.
We extend our thoughts and prayers to the family and friends of Eidan Cortez during this difficult time.

Police have already determined that this man is at fault for causing the death of this child. Now it’s up to the court system to determine his penalty. Meanwhile, a separate lawsuit can be made in civil court to recover financial losses to the family of this child who are left grieving his loss.
If a negligent driver or another entity is at fault for a collision resulting in injuries to you or a loved one, there may be grounds for a personal injury or wrongful death claim.
