Off-duty corrections officer dies in crash with car in Lancaster
LANCASTER, Calif. (Jan. 2, 2020) – George Luis Rodriguez, 45, of Fontana, was ID’d as the motorcyclist who died Tuesday morning when a vehicle made a left-hand turn in front of his bike at Avenue J and Central Way in Lancaster.
The traffic accident was reported at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 31, according to a news release from the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station.
Lonny Quintana of Lancaster was driving a 2012 Honda CRV eastbound on Avenue J when he reportedly made a left turn onto northbound Valley Central Way in front of the 2013 Suzuki motorcycle. The bike had been traveling westbound on Avenue J and approaching the intersection.
When Quintana turned left, his car collided with the motorcycle. Police are investigating the crash to determine who had the green light at the time of the crash.
They are also questioning whether or not speed was a contributing factor for the motorcyclist, the sheriff’s news release said. Paramedics responded and rushed Rodriguez to Antelope Valley Hospital where he later died.
Police say that Rodriguez was a corrections officer heading to work at the Lancaster State Prison.
Witnesses are asked to contact traffic investigators at the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station at 661-948-8466.
