Gerardo Estrada Struck, Killed by LAPD Patrol SUV in Skateboard Accident
HIGHLAND PARK, Calif. (September 22, 2025) — Gerardo Estrada, 30, died after being hit by a Los Angeles Police Department patrol SUV Friday night at Woodside Drive and North Figueroa Street near Highland Park.

The young man was riding a skateboard and heading home from work at a local restaurant/bar. He was near the center median at the time of the accident around 7:20 p.m. on Sept. 19th, according to the LAPD. The skateboarder went down in the roadway and sustained major blunt force trauma. He was pronounced dead at the scene by arriving paramedics.
Police officers had their lights and sirens engaged and were heading to Figueroa Street and Piemont Avenue to locate a parolee at large when the crash occurred. Witnesses at a carnival held at nearby Sycamore Grove Park heard a loud crash sound and thought two cars had collided, according to a KTLA news report. Reporters were told the police SUV was going fast, but police say that was not the case.
Meanwhile, the police officer was uninjured in the collision. Investigators are working on the case.
