Gerardo Torres Cano Killed in Dulzura Motorcycle Accident on Highway 94

DULZURA, Calif. (Jan. 7, 2025) — Gerardo Torres Cano, 30, of Chula Vista, died in a motorcycle versus car accident earlier this month on Highway 94 in Dulzura, just east of Jamul in San Diego County, authorities said.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal crash was reported on Jan. 7th at 8:43 a.m. in front of Cal Fire Station 30 near the 17300 block of State Route 94, east of Avocado Boulevard. Initial reports indicated a motorcycle and an on-duty firefighter’s pickup truck were involved in the collision.
Authorities say the 33-year-old man driving the eastbound 2023 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck made a left-hand turn into the path of the oncoming westbound 2021 Yamaha motorcycle. The two vehicles collided and the rider suffered major trauma. Despite lifesaving efforts, the 30-year-old man riding the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 8:56 a.m., according to CHP logs. The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office was notified.
Both eastbound and westbound lanes of State Route 94 were temporarily blocked, prompting a SIG Alert and significant traffic delays while investigators worked the scene. Evidence tows were requested as part of the investigation, and CHP confirmed the roadway was reopened shortly after 11:00 a.m.
The identity of the deceased has not been released, pending notification of next of kin. The circumstances leading up to the collision remain under investigation.
