Whittier Man Killed in Crash on Century (105) Freeway
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (April 15, 2021) – Gerson Jimenez, 38, of Whittier, died Thursday when his Toyota was struck by another motorist after an initial solo crash in the HOV lane on the Century (105) Freeway in the Willowbrook area.
The collisions happened about 12:55 a.m. on April 15th on the westbound 105 Freeway, just west of Alameda Street, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Gerson Jimenez was driving a 2005 Toyota in the westbound carpool lane. For unknown reasons, he had a solo-vehicle crash and become stopped in the HOV lane. Next, an oncoming 2006 BMW struck the disabled Toyota. The impact led to fatal injuries for Gerson Jimenez who died at the scene, according to the Los Angeles County coroner’s office.
The BMW then crashed into a 2016 Toyota heading westbound in the No. 2 lane, according to the CHP.
Meanwhile, the BMW driver was taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Additionally, three occupants from the 2016 Toyota suffered minor injuries in the collision.
The CHP is investigating the crash and preliminary results indicate that at least one of the involved motorists was speeding.
