Brawley Man, 60, Killed in Crash; Suspected DUI Driver Arrested
CALIPATRIA, Calif. (June 29, 2021) – Gilbert Marquez, 60, of Brawley, died in a Calipatria Crash Saturday afternoon on Highway 115 with a suspected DUI driver.
The 60-year-old Brawley man died in the 4 p.m. crash on June 27th near Calipatria, according to the California Highway Patrol and the Calexico Chronicle.
Prior to the Calipatria crash, Gilbert Marquez was driving a Ford F-250 pickup truck on Highway 115 at East Albright Road. A second motorist in a 2012 Ford Fusion allegedly failed to stop at the intersection and crashed broadside into the pickup truck. Upon impact, the pickup truck overturned multiple times before Marquez was ejected and died at the scene. The truck landed in the upright position.
Suspected DUI Driver Arrested by Police Had 5 Prior Convictions
Shefner Larnell Moore, 54, of Brawley, was driving the other vehicle and suffered injuries himself.
Additionally, paramedics transported Moore to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs.
Meanwhile, police investigating the crash suspect that alcohol was a likely factor in the accident. Subsequently, Police arrested Shefner Moore on suspicion of felony DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter. Also, authorities reported that the suspect had five prior driving-under-the-influence convictions.
The death of Gilbert Marque in the Calipatria Crash remains under investigation.
