Gilberto Gallegos Jr, 31, ID’d as Suspect in Bakersfield Fatal DUI Crash
BAKERSFIELD, CA (November 27, 2022) – Authorities detained Gilberto Gallegos Jr after a fatal DUI crash Highway 58 in Bakersfield.
The California Highway Patrol determined that 31-year-old Bakersfield man was under the influence when the wreck took place on Sunday.
The incident began when Gilberto Gallegos Jr was driving a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado west on Highway 58 in Bakersfield. At the same time, a Ford Thunderbird became disabled along the right shoulder of the highway.
CHP said Gilberto Gallegos then veered to the right. His car slammed into the back of the stopped Ford, rolled over and landed in the dirt shoulder.
The Bakersfield Californian and Kern Golden Empire wrote that the accident occurred at around 2:15 a.m., west of the Oswell Street exit.
Woman, 50, Killed in Wreck
Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived and pronounced the 50-year-old woman driving the Thunderbird dead at the scene. Her passenger, a 58-year-old man, ended up unharmed.
Gilberto Gallegos sustained minor injuries as a result of the crash. Paramedics rushed the patient to the Kern Medical for treatment.
The names of the deceased and wounded parties have not been yet released. Meanwhile, CHP soon placed Gilberto Gallegos under arrest for DUI.
Officers forced a stretch of Highway 58 to shut down for a time near Oswell following the wreck. The cause of the Bakersfield DUI crash is still under investigation.
