Gilberto Payan, 52, Killed in Pomona Crash Near Holt and Dudley
POMONA, CA (October 16, 2022) – Gilberto Payan was killed after a taco stand crash near Holt Avenue and Dudley Street in Pomona.
UPDATE: Hit-and-run suspect identified, arrested
The coroner’s office identified the 52-year-old man as one of the victims in the fatal wreck which took place on Friday.
The incident happened when Gilberto Cazares Payan was picking up dinner at the taco stand near Holt Avenue and Dudley Street in Pomona.
At the same time, a vehicle was going east on Holt. The driver drifted into the westbound lanes for an unknown reason and then slammed into the taco stand.
DUI Driver Hits Taco Stand
The KTLA News and CBS Los Angeles wrote that the accident occurred on October 14 at around 7:30 p.m. in front of the Cardenas Market.
Gilberto Payan died at the scene of the crash near the Kiwanis Park. Police said a total of 12 people ended up hurt as a result of the collision.
Medical personnel rushed the patients to hospitals and listed three of them in critical condition. Meanwhile, the 26-year-old Pomona woman driving the car did not stop and fled the area.
Officers soon arrested her on suspicion of felony vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence and felony hit-and-run. The Pomona crash is still under investigation.
