Police Searching for Hit-and-run Driver
RIVERSIDE, Calif. (August 9, 2023) — Gilberto Sotelo, 38, of Homeland, died Monday in a hit-and-run pedestrian accident on the 215 Freeway in Riverside.
The traffic collision occurred on the southbound 215 at around 1:45 a.m. on August 7th after the victim reportedly ran out of gas in his Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck.
The motorist was putting gasoline into his disabled truck when he was struck by an oncoming Honda, according to Riverside CHP officials and the Press Enterprise.
It happened just south of the 91 Freeway after the Honda SUV veered onto the right shoulder and collided with the man and his disabled pickup truck.
Gilberto Sotelo Killed; Suspect Flees
Paramedics responded, but unfortunately, Gilberto Sotelo was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:55 a.m., according to the Riverside County Sheriff Coroner website.
Meanwhile, the driver of the Honda failed to stop and he or she fled the scene. The suspect was last seen traveling southbound on the 215 freeway, the CHP said.
Finally, the case remains under investigation.
