
DESERT HOT SPRINGS, Calif. (June 30, 2023) — Gildardo Gonzalez Luna, 49, of Stokesdale, North Carolina, died in a collision with a wrong-way driver Wednesday on North Indian Canyon Drive in Desert Hot Springs, California.
The two-vehicle collision occurred on State Route 62 around 2:21 p.m. on June 28th, just east of Worsley Road, according to the Riverside County Sheriff Coroner.
A 42-year-old Victorville man driving a Ford Fiesta reportedly cross over the double yellow lines and collided with the victim’s 2007 Honda Civic, KESQ News. The driver from the Honda, identified as Gilardo Gonzalez Luna, died at the scene.
Meanwhile, the Victorville man from the Ford was transported to Desert Regional Medical Center with major injuries. Authorities say that both drivers had their seatbelts on when the crash occurred.
Later, police arrested the driver of the Ford on suspicion of driving under the influence.
The case remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol’s Indio station detectives.
