Girl Riding E-Scooter Killed in Car Crash on Airport Drive in Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (Oct. 6, 2026) — A girl riding an electric scooter died Sunday in Bakersfield after she was hit by a car in a pedestrian crosswalk on Airport Drive at El Tejon Avenue.
According to the California Highway Patrol report it happened on Sunday, October 4, 2026, at around 4:21 p.m.
Authorities investigating the crash determined a 34-year-old man driving a 2007 Kia Rio struck the victim in the northbound No. 1 lane on Airport Drive as he was approaching El Tejon Avenue.
Meanwhile, the unidentified girl rode the electric scooter into a crosswalk at the designated pedestrian crossing, controlled by signage and warning lights, police said.
That’s when the Kia hit the pedestrian. Sadly, the girl suffered major injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
