DUI Driver Crashes into Car at Rialto Intersection
RIALTO, Calif. (Nov. 25, 2024) — A suspected DUI driver crashed into a car killing two girls ages 3 and 4 years old Sunday night in Rialto at Walnut Drive and Riverside Drive.
The fatal, hit-and-run crash happened around 11 p.m. on Nov. 24th, according to the Rialto Police Department.
The children were traveling with their parents in a white Honda Accord. The driver turned left onto Walnut Drive when the suspect in a southbound Dodge Ram pickup truck struck the back end of the car. The car then spun out and hit a tow truck. Police said the pickup truck driver had run a red light before hitting the Honda. The driver continued driving and eventually stopped and fled the scene.
Paramedics responded to the crash scene and located one of the girls who had been ejected from her car seat and the second girl in her car seat with major injuries. Both of them died at the scene of the crash.
Meanwhile, the father was taken to a hospital with moderate injuries and the mother did not report any injuries following the crash.
Alexis Garcia, 28, of Buellton, who was driving the pickup truck, fled the scene. However, authorities later located the suspect and he was arrested on two counts of murder, one for DUI, and a third for felony hit-and-run. A passenger riding with him in the truck was not injured or arrested.
The deadly crash remains under investigation.
