Giselle and Hector Evangelista Fatal Head-on Crash Patterson Road in Riverbank

RIVERBANK: 2 Dead, Head-on Crash Patterson Road; Marisela Wilkinson InjuredFather-Daughter Killed; Family of 4 Injured in Riverbank Crash

RIVERBANK, Calif. (August 8, 2018) –A 16-year-old driver, Giselle Evangelista, and her father, Hector, 44, both of Oakdale, died in a head-on crash Tuesday night on Patterson Road, just east of Riverbank, according to the Modesto Bee.

Four other people in the other vehicle were injured in the crash: Marisela Wilkinson, 32, and her children, Kylie Wilkinson, 11, Michael Wilkinson, 9, and Alexa Wilkinson, 6.

The crash took place about 7:20 p.m. near Langford Road, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The teenager and her father were traveling westbound in a 2000 Toyota at about 40 to 45 mph when the vehicle collided with the other woman’s 2014 Dodge that was heading eastbound on the same road.

Police believe that the teenage driver veered into eastbound traffic and then corrected back into her own lane, but then for unknown reasons she suddenly turned left back into oncoming traffic and collided with the Dodge.

Marisela Wilkinson was unable to avoid the collision and the two vehicles crashed head-on. The Toyota went backwards into a ditch filled with cow waste runoff and submerged on the driver’s side.

Bystanders tried unsuccessfully to rescue the father and daughter who were trapped in the vehicle.

Gisell Evangelista was to return this fall to Oakdale High School as a junior.

Paramedics rushed the Wilkinson family by ambulance to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto for treatment.

Modesto-area Accident Investigation

At this time, we do not know all the facts about this case. Police are piecing together evidence and speaking to those involved and witnesses to determine fault. It’s possible that a mechanical problem may have been a contributing factor in this collision, but that will not be known until police have completed their investigation.

We extend our heartfelt prayers to the father and daughter killed in this horrible crash.  We also extend our prayers to the family who was injured.
