Woman Killed in Thermal Car Accident on Highway 86
THERMAL, Calif. (Dec. 14, 2017) — Gloria Lopez, 52, of Mecca was killed and two were injured in a collision Wednesday night on Highway 86 and Avenue 62, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
The crash took place about 8:04 p.m. last night. Lopez suffered major injuries and died at the scene. Paramedics with CAL FIRE/Riverside County Fire Department responded and transported two people to a hospital, one with serious injuries and one with minor injuries.
In an article by KESQ, California Highway Patrol said 20-year-old Cynthia Rodriguez was driving a 2014 Nissan Versa north on Highway 86 when she allegedly failed to make a stop at the intersection of 62nd Avenue.
Rodriguez, of Mecca, then collided with the right side of a 2000 Mitsubishi Galant which was traveling east on 62nd Avenue at the time.
The wreck killed Lopez who was the right front passenger of the Mitsubishi. The 33-year-old woman driving the Galant was seriously hurt while Rodriguez sustained minor wounds.
Police are heading up an investigation into liability for this collision and will determine fault. At this time, police are putting together a report based on facts gathered at the scene. They will release this to the involved drivers and the family of the victim who died.
