Gonzalo Hernandez-Mendez, 51, Killed in Gilroy Crash on Highway 152
GILROY (September 23, 2019) – The driver killed after a traffic accident along Highway 152 Sunday has been identified.
Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office said the 51-year-old Gilroy resident Gonzalo Hernandez-Mendez was involved in the crash on September 22.
The incident began when Hernandez-Mendez slowed his 1996 Toyota Tacoma on Highway 152 to turn left into a private driveway. For an unknown reason, a big rig then struck the Tacoma.
The impact pushed the Tacoma into the westbound lane where it collided with a 2018 Ford and a 2019 Toyota RAV4. The accident occurred at about 8:30 p.m., just east of Bloomfield Avenue.

According to East Bay Times, California Highway Patrol affirmed that Hernandez-Mendez got ejected from his vehicle and died as a result of the wreck.
Meanwhile, the 49-year-old woman operating the Ford and a 11-year-old girl suffered major injuries while her four other passengers sustained minor to moderate injuries.
Paramedics rushed all six patients to Valley Medical Center in San Jose for treatment. The operator of the big rig and the two people riding the RAV4 sustained minor wounds.
Their names and condition at this time remained undisclosed. The cause of the tragic collision is still under investigation.
