GORMAN, California (July 13, 2016) — Two adults and four children were critically injured when two vehicles collided and one overturned in a crash on the southbound Interstate 5 Freeway at Smokey Bear Road, a California Highway Patrol report said.
The crash took place about 1:27 p.m. when a driver in a blue Toyota Prius allegedly crashed into a Chevrolet Suburban at 70 mph and caused the large SUV to overturn onto its side. A third green car may have also been involved in the crash. The report stated there were four children in at least one of the vehicles and two adults. In fact, police called for a helicopter to airlift the injured to hospitals due to serious injuries and heavy traffic.
Richard Wise, the driver of the Prius, and Lucilla Flores, 53, the driver of the SUV, were both badly injured and hospitalized.
Artima Flores, 29, a passenger in the SUV, was moderately injured.
Police closed down all southbound lanes before Smokey Bear Road and issued a SigAlert for roughly two hours due to heavy traffic and vehicles blocking the roadway. The crash is under investigation by police.
Our prayers are with those who were injured in this collision in hopes of a full recovery.
