GRASS VALLEY, California (May 21, 2016) – Eight motorists were injured, two critically, following a 3-car head-on collision on Highway 49 near Combie Road, according to an article by Sacbee.
The accident happened on May 21 at around 2:30 p.m.
Per the Union, two cars were heading northbound on Highway 49, a Ford Expedition driven by Joanna Hender, 75, and a Toyota Tacoma driven by Lindsay Fitzinger, 23. Both Hender and Fitzinger failed to merge and crossed into oncoming traffic hitting a southbound Chevy Astro bus head-on.
The Chevy Astro bus had several occupants inside who were confirmed to have been from out of town, including a party from Arkansas and another one from Belgium. Two of the passengers who are members of the band “Handmade Moments,” Anna Horton and Joel Ludford.
Anna Horton suffered undisclosed injuries and was transported to Mercy San Juan.
Joel Ludford sustained a major hip injury as he was forced to undergo hip surgery at Sutter Roseville Hospital. He is expected to recover.
Two other passengers on the bus identified as Timothy Vergauwen and Hanna Mosby were also both injured and hospitalized.
Per the Union, Joanna Hender and her 14-year-old passenger, a young girl, were both injured and are expected to survive.
Lindsay Fitzinger and her passenger Scott Tamietti were both injured and taken to Mercy San Juan.
At this time, no names of any involved parties have been released at this time.
Neither drugs nor alcohol were factors in this incident.
Meanwhile, California Highway Patrol officials are investigating the collision.
