Gregory Dooley, 45, ID’d as Suspect in San Mateo-Hayward Bridge Fatal DUI Crash
SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA (December 12, 2022) – Authorities detained Gregory Dooley after a fatal DUI crash on the San Mateo-Hayward Bridge.
The California Highway Patrol determined that the 45-year-old man was under the influence when the wreck took place on Saturday.
The incident began when a two-vehicle non-injury collision occurred on eastbound Highway 92. CHP described the cars as a black Hyundai Elantra and a silver Infiniti G35.
Both motorists stopped in the slow and middle lanes and exited their vehicles. Gregory James Dooley, of Newman, approached them on the San Mateo-Hayward Bridge.
Man Hit and Killed by Car
In the process, he struck one of the motorists with his a black Cadillac Escalade. The SF Chronicle and ABC 7 News wrote that the accident happened on December 10 at around 11:45 p.m.
The driver of the Infiniti, a man, died at the scene of the collision. His name has not been yet released pending notification of next of kin.
Meanwhile, officers soon arrested Gregory Dooley on suspicion of DUI following the crash. His passenger, Sally Dooley, sustained major injuries as a result of the wreck.
Paramedics rushed her to the Stanford Medical for treatment. CHP forced the bridge to shut down for several hours after the incident.
The San Mateo-Hayward Bridge crash is still under investigation. Anyone with information can call the Redwood City Area CHP office at (650) 779-2700.
