Woman Killed in Vallejo Pedestrian Accident
VALLEJO, Calif. (Jan. 24, 2019) — Gretchen Elliott, 23, was struck and killed Tuesday night as she was walking on Lewis Brown Drive, according to the Vallejo Police Department and the Solano County coroner’s office.
The driver in a black Kia Soul was traveling eastbound on Lewis Brown Drive when he struck the woman about 6:58 p.m. The young woman was walking on Lewis Brown Drive between Sonoma Boulevard – state Highway 29 – and Broadway Street, police said.
Elliott is believed to be a transient or homeless woman, but that has not been confirmed. The impact threw her down in the roadway in front of a furniture store. Paramedics responded and quickly transported her to a hospital where she later died of her injuries.
Driver Cooperating with Police
The 52-year-old Vallejo man who was driving the Kia Soul stopped and is cooperating with the investigation. The preliminary results of the police inquiry indicate that speed was not to be a factor in the collision, but it’s unknown at this time whether or not alcohol was. Although police are investigating this collision, it’s always good to have a separate independent investigation.
Witnesses may call Vallejo Police Officer Kenneth Trimble at (707) 648-4011.
Our condolences extend to the family of Gretchen Elliott as they cope with this tragedy.
