Woman Killed; Guadalupe Jimenez and Anita Blunt Injured in Highway 99 Crash
MERCED (August 7, 2017) – A woman was killed and two people were injured in a traffic collision on Highway 99 Sunday, August 6, according to Merced Sun Star.
The accident involving three vehicles and a semi-truck occurred south of Franklin Road.
As per the article, California Highway Patrol said 24-year-old Rafael Manzo Jr. was driving a 2017 Toyota Corolla south on Highway 99 when he allegedly failed to slow down as the traffic suddenly slowed.
Manzo then struck the back of a 2001 Honda CR-V which became pinned the Toyota and a 1998 Ford F-150 pickup truck. Subsequently, the impact of the crash forced the Ford into the big rig.
Merced Fatal Car Accident
CHP affirmed that a passenger in the Honda, a 78-year-old Merced woman, died at the scene. Her name has not been yet released.
The driver of the CR-V, 79-year-old Guadalupe Jimenez, and another occupant, 47-year-old Anita Blunt, were taken to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto with injuries ranging from minor to moderate degree. Both are from Merced.
Manzo, also of Merced, suffered a foot injury was not hospitalized. His passenger and the operators of the pickup and the big rig were unharmed. The incident remains under investigation.
