The accident took place at approximately 2:20 a.m., south of Brown Road.
As per the article, Santa Barbara County Fire Department said the Guadalupe Police officer was transporting an inmate to Santa Barbara County Jail when he reportedly spotted a pickup truck headed north in the southbound lane.
The officer tried evasive action while applying the brakes but eventually crashed head-on into the oncoming vehicle.
The officer was taken to Marian Regional Medical Center with face, hands, arms, knees and abdomen injuries. He was treated and released and is expected to recover.
His name was not immediately available.
Meanwhile, the male prisoner was extricated back from the patrol car and was also hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
