Victim was Visually Impaired
FRESNO, California (August 26, 2016) – A 72-year-old blind man who was fatally struck early Friday has been identified as Gurbakhsh Chauhan, according to The Fresno Bee.
The collision took place about 5 a.m. at the intersection of Maple and St. Andrew avenues.
As per the article, Fresno County Coroner’s Office said Chauhan was crossing Maple Avenue heading east on the south side of St. Andrew when he was hit by a Mercedes.
The man, who had an apparent limited vision, was transported to Community Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Meanwhile the female driver of the Mercedes was going south on Maple Avenue at the time of the accident. She reportedly did not see Chauhan and was unable to stop in time, hitting the victim with the right front of her vehicle.
The incident remains under investigation.
