1 Killed in Gustine Crash on Interstate 5 Near Cottonwood Road
GUSTINE, CA (November 25, 2021) – A car crash killed at least one person on the Interstate 5 near Cottonwood Road in Gustine.
The California Highway Patrol said the tragic accident took place on Thursday evening. Officers reported the wreck at about 7:06 p.m.
CHP said the incident happened when a sedan and another vehicle collided in Gustine. The two crashed on the northbound Interstate 5, just south of Cottonwood Road.
2 Vehicles Collide
The sedan rolled over, went 80 feet off the road and then landed on its roof. A 40 feet barbed wire fence ended up damaged due to the impact of the collision.
Firefighters along with the paramedics soon arrived at the scene and extricated a trapped occupant from the overturned car. They confirmed that one individual died as a result of the wreck.
The name of the deceased party has not been yet released pending notification of next of kin. Meanwhile, the report added that alcohol played a role in the accident.
The cause of the fatal Gustine crash is still under investigation. CHP forced the northbound lanes of the Interstate 5 to shut down for a time near Cottonwood following the incident.
