GUSTINE: Fatal Crash Interstate 5 Freeway, State Route 140 (Feb. 1)

Semi-Truck, Car Collide on I-5 Freeway in Gustine

GUSTINE, Calif. (Feb. 1, 2022) — A fatal Gustine crash on the Interstate 5 Freeway happened Tuesday at the off ramp to Central Yosemite Highway (State Route 140) in Merced County.

The crash happened about 2:16 p.m. on Feb. 1 in the northbound lanes of the I-5, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The drivers of a semi-truck and a Hyundai Sonata collided due to unknown circumstances, police said.

The California Department of Fire sent paramedics to the scene, but sadly at least one person died. Meanwhile, the Merced County Sheriff’s Office requested the coroner respond to the scene.

A tow truck responded to remove the damaged Hyundai from the freeway.

Also, investigators with the CHP are working on the case and will determine fault for the Gustine crash on the Interstate 5 Freeway.
