Halie Elliott, 20, Hollister DUI Hit-and-Run Crash on Hillcrest Road
HOLLISTER (December 31, 2019) – The pedestrian killed after an alleged DUI hit-and-run collision along Hillcrest Road last week Monday has been identified.
The San Benito County Coroner’s Office said 20-year-old Hollister resident Halie Elliott died following the accident on December 23.
According to reports by KION News, deputies affirmed that Elliott was struck by a van in the 1500 block of Hillcrest Road. The incident occurred at approximately 5:37 p.m.
Matthew Echevarria, 31, Arrested For DUI Hit-and-Run
Paramedics responded to the site and found the young woman lying in the roadway as a result of the crash. They ultimately pronounced her dead at the scene.
Meanwhile, police affirmed that the driver of the vehicle involved did not stop to render aid and took off. Officers later arrested the suspect, 31-year-old Matthew Echevarria, who was driving under the influence of a controlled substance at the time.
They booked the Hollister man into the San Benito County Jail for a series of charges including gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, DUI causing injury and hit-and-run from an injury collision.
